For Marcos, the interview was a conduit for a warning: the EZLN is isolated and vulnerable. The Zapatista communities are under a counterinsurgency seige. This narrative can be an excellent introduction to them, or a reunion. It offers an opportunity to analyze and look at Marcos and the EZLN in depth.

We believe the most important thing is to revive the debate, and hear and learn about their reasoning and circumstances. Another reason to read it is we too need the Zapatista movement.
Their autonomous communities are essential to find answers to our own individual and societal problems. The answer to our chaos must be through community organizing, and in that regard, the Zapatista experience has been successful. The communities have shown us that.
